Biography
Young dramatic mezzo soprano Cashlin Oostindië was born in Alkmaar in 2000. As a young child she would go to the children concerts at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, where she discovered her love for classical music. At the age of 6 she took harp lessons to increase her love for this music. Cashlin continued these lessons for 6 years. She discovered her love for opera when she took singing lessons with soprano Anke Hillier- van der Kooij at the age of 15. At the age of 17 Cashlin was permitted to the prepatory year at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she studied with baritone Pierre Mak. In 2018 she started studying for her Bachelor of Voice at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Don Marrazzo. She also had the pleasure to work at the conservatory with David Bollen, Nathalie Doucet, Gerardo Felisatti, Ira Siff, Eva Hess- Thaysen and Lauren Athey- Janka.
During her early vocal studies, Cashlin was a member of Young Opera Noord Holland. This ensemble gave her the opportunity to develop her operatic ambition. In 2016 she participated at Alkmaars Talent, where she became a finalist. This made her a recurring soloist of the Regional Youth Orchestra Artiance. With the orchestra she performed in Germany, England and the Netherlands, sometimes in collaboration with the ballet school Attitude.
At the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Cashlin performed as the alto soloist during the school’s performance of A. Bruckner’s Requiem in D minor.
During her studies at the conservatory she also performed the role of Marcellina at Conservatorium van Amsterdam’s production of Le nozze di Figaro, in the choir at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam’s production of Dialogues des Carmélites, covering for Mère Jeanne and Madame de Croissy, and as a soloist at the concert of Talent op Podium Orkest, conducted by Dominic Seldis.
In 2022 she continued her studies with Don Marrazzo in Athens, Greece, where she also worked with Spyros Souladakis and Nicolas Vassiliou.
Currently, Cashlin is studying with Lauren Athey-Janka. She also participates from time to time in masterclasses with Eva-Maria Westbroek and Frank van Aken.
Since 2024 she formed a duo with pianist Florence van der Does:
Florence is a classical pianist who’s active both as a chamber musician and a soloist. She has performed at renowned venues such as Musis Sacrum in Arnhem, het Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ en Het Concertgebouw. She was also invited to play at festivals such as the Pianoduo Festival Amsterdam and the Grachtenfestival. Florence played on Dutch National radio NPO Klassiek multiple times. She studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the ArtEZ Conservatory with Frank Peters and Frank van de Laar.
